Firefox Prevents Phishing Attempts

What is a phishing attempt?

Phishing is where someone creates a page to look exactly like a normal page that requests for you to enter your username and password, but it isn’t on the same website, so when you enter your username and password, you end up sending your username and password to someone else.

Then that person can access you account and do whatever they want.

This can be very horrible for your finances if you end up giving your online banking or paypal password to someone.

Here is the Dictionary.com definition:

Phishing: the practice of luring unsuspecting Internet users to a fake Web site by using authentic-looking email with the real organization’s logo, in an attempt to steal passwords, financial or personal information, or introduce a virus attack; the creation of a Web site replica for fooling unsuspecting Internet users into submitting personal or financial information or passwords

But you don’t have to worry about that if you have Firefox! I accidentally happened upon a Myspace Phishing site (a site that pretends to be myspace), and I got a warning from Firefox 2.0 saying “Whoa! This site looks like it’s pretending to be another site to steal your password.” (or something like that) Then I clicked the button that said “Let’s get out of here!”

Firefox makes the world a better place. Period.

Dreamweaver Tip – Hidden Files

Nov 9 2:21

Dreamweaver 8 is my current FTP client of choice. I am also a LAMP programmer, which means I use .htaccess and .htpasswd. These two files are named by only an extension and no file name. These files are automatically hidden, and you will continually find novices claim that a website doesn’t have an .htaccess file just because he can’t see it.

.htaccess files are automatically hidden on most LAMP servers.

Seeing Hidden Files in Dreamweaver 8

Dreamweaver will allow you to see hidden files on the remote server. The steps are pretty easy.

First Open up the website that you would like to see the hidden files for, and connect to the remote server. Then click on the “drop down menu” button in the top right of the “Files” sidebar.

View Hidden Files

Then select “View > Show Hidden Files.”

Dreamweaver 8 – Starting up with Remove View

Starting up Dreamweaver 8 with Remote View

When you start up Dreamweaver 8 under normal settings, you are on Local View by default. Anyone who is not working solo on a project knows the devastation of working on an old file and overwriting the current file. This can occur without realizing it if your Dreamweaver 8 is on Local View by Default.

I’m looking to find the solution to the problem!

If you know what setting will allow you to start up in Remote view, please leave a comment.

Thanks!

Ron Paul and the Internet

Nov 6 0:55

It doesn’t take a genius to tell that if Ron Paul becomes president, he’ll put a lot of powerful people out of power. He’s going to close down some very deep-rooted parts of the government.

It doesn’t take much to figure out that those powerful people are going to do as much as they can to stay in power. Unfortunately for them, no one controls the Internet. The Internet allows people to spread their beliefs without a secret agenda getting in the way.

The fact that some random guy put together a website called www.ThisNovember5th.com and because of it, ended up raising over 4 million dollars for Ron Paul in one day!

The Internet is an amazing and powerful tool.
