Firefox Adding and Removing Scrollbar (CSS Fix)

Nov 3 2010

In Firefox, if the webpage you are viewing is not taller than your screen (and doesn’t need a scrollbar), Firefox will completely remove the scroll bar from your screen. This adds 20px of more space to your view space. Unfortunately, if your website is centered, this will actually move your webpage 10px to the left or right when switching between some pages.

This CSS code will automatically force a sidebar onto every page of your website; even if the scrollbar is not needed. That will stop your webpage from moving left and right on different pages:

html { overflow-y: scroll;}

Firefox Prevents Phishing Attempts

Nov 10 2007

What is a phishing attempt?

Phishing is where someone creates a page to look exactly like a normal page that requests for you to enter your username and password, but it isn’t on the same website, so when you enter your username and password, you end up sending your username and password to someone else.

Then that person can access you account and do whatever they want.

This can be very horrible for your finances if you end up giving your online banking or paypal password to someone.

Here is the definition:

Phishing: the practice of luring unsuspecting Internet users to a fake Web site by using authentic-looking email with the real organization’s logo, in an attempt to steal passwords, financial or personal information, or introduce a virus attack; the creation of a Web site replica for fooling unsuspecting Internet users into submitting personal or financial information or passwords

But you don’t have to worry about that if you have Firefox! I accidentally happened upon a Myspace Phishing site (a site that pretends to be myspace), and I got a warning from Firefox 2.0 saying “Whoa! This site looks like it’s pretending to be another site to steal your password.” (or something like that) Then I clicked the button that said “Let’s get out of here!”

Firefox makes the world a better place. Period.

Internet Explorer 6 and 7 on the Same Computer

Aug 10 2007

Yes, in the world of Website Designing, you must make sure your website looks the same in every major browser. This means having all major browsers available: IE6, IE7, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc. You may even want to go as far as checking it on the Netscape, MSN or AOL Browsers. (Although I recommend never downloading anything from AOL, as I’ve observed legal but slightly malicious coding from them.)

If you’re a PC guy, that means you’ll need to find a friend with a Mac to check your Safari websites. Also, since when you install Internet Explorer 7, it deletes, Internet Explorer 6, you’ll need to have two computers…. right? Wrong!

We can thank TrendoSoft for this beautiful program that will allow you to install multiple versions of IE on your PC!

Now your task bar can look like this:

And if you are using Internet Explorer, I recommend switching to Firefox for a even safer and user-friendly experience.

May 23 2007

WiaF MascotHa! So yesterday I installed real player, and as I finished installing it, the final screen was this:

How awesome is that! Firefox is the best Internet Browser on the planet, ask any computer/Internet nerd. Anyone who knows anything about the internet knows how horrible Internet Explorer is and how awesome Firefox is!

Please make the world a better place, and trash Internet Explorer.

Firefox – Banner Blocker!

May 19 2007

If you still are using Internet Explorer, let me share with you the best internet browser, bar none:

There you have it, go get it. More secured browsing, and more capabilities. For example:

Have you noticed how ANNOYING the banner ads have been getting? They are freaking annoying. Like those “true” commercials on myspace… annoying. Well have no fear, Firefox is here with the sweetest extension ever!

AdBlock Plus

With this extension, just about all knows banners disappear! (Select the first option after installing it, and it will use a continually updated list to keep you protected from annoying banner ads!)

-The Internet is Friendly again… okay maybe not friendly… but at least bannerless…
